U.S.-based travel companies, from Marriott International to Booking Holdings are trimming their budgets and workforce ahead of next year as falling leisure travel demand from lower-income travelers hits top-line growth. Real estate analytics company CoStar and global travel data firm Tourism Economics in November downgraded their 2025 outlook for room revenue growth to 1.8% from 2.6%. "We anticipate these recent trends to moderate and for overall demand growth to be slightly stronger next year," said Aran Ryan, director of industry studies at Tourism Economics, a subsidiary of Oxford Economics, as higher income consumers still have strong intentions to travel.

As US stocks (^DJI, ^IXIC, ^GSPC) have led record runs throughout 2024, is there any future factor that could tame valuations heading into 2025? One strategist doesn't believe so. "From our perspective, it's hard for us to make the case that valuations all of a sudden are going to go back towards something like the long-term average, at least for now until we get clearer evidence that there's risk on the horizon," Bernstein Private Wealth Management Senior Investment Strategist Matthew Palazzolo tells Yahoo Finance. Palazzolo highlights some of the advice he is giving clients, namely remaining "very diversified by sector, by capitalization, and by geography, and also fixed income." He goes on to comment on the likelihood of a slight stock pullback and how that factors into his forecast for earnings growth: "Our models are assuming that we get earnings growth of high single-digits in 2025 and into even 2026. And if you assume that valuations stay north of 20-times earnings, then you're going to get a return on the market pretty much consistent with that level of earnings growth." WASHINGTON (Reuters) -U.S. President Joe Biden on Tuesday proposed expanding coverage of anti-obesity drugs, like Novo Nordisk's Wegovy, for more than 7 million people with Medicare and Medicaid health coverage, which could cut out-of-pocket expenses for some by as much as 95%. This would enable more Americans to afford new weight loss medications in the GLP-1 class that have been shown to reduce weight by as much as 20% on average and can help prevent type 2 diabetes but cost as much as $1,000 a month without insurance coverage. Current rules for the Medicare government health insurance program cover the use of GLP-1 drugs such as Eli Lilly's Mounjaro and Novo's Ozempic for conditions like diabetes, but not the versions of those drugs like Wegovy that have been approved to treat obesity as a condition on its own.

President-elect Donald Trump says he will enforce a 25% tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico alongside his proposed 60% tariffs on Chinese imports, sparking market volatility. SMBC Nikko Securities America chief economist Joseph LaVorgna, who served as the National Economic Council chief economist during Trump's first term, joins Morning Brief Hosts Seana Smith and Brad Smith to discuss how Trump's second term in office will differ from his first four years. LaVorgna says the proposed tariffs are "consistent with President-elect Trump's economic agenda, which is an integrated approach whereby you have tariffs that occur alongside low corporate tax rates, low regulations, a cutback in government spending, and abundant energy output, and essentially all those things work together to slow the offshoring to get more onshoring, more reindustrialization in the US economy and essentially build a much stronger base and tariffs are a key tool in using that agenda." The economist adds, "I don't like when people just look at the tariffs in isolation. It's part of a total comprehensive process where everything is integrated, where companies want to come to the US because of low corporate tax rates, low regulation, cheap energy, and things that are just favorable to producing. I think that's the point in tariffs, [which] are the key tool to getting our trading partners to the table and also incentivizing companies from not leaving and, of course, foreign producers who would be tariffed effectively to come to the US." Watch the video above for more about LaVorgna's expectations around the impact of Trump's tariff policies and his views on the Federal Reserve.
